Choosing yourself doesn’t always look dramatic.
Sometimes it looks quiet.
Unimpressive.
Almost invisible to everyone else.
It starts with noticing what drains you, and no longer dismissing it.
With reclaiming small joys you once postponed.
With allowing yourself to imagine a life that feels lighter…happier.
Being intentional.
This is where many hesitate.
Because choosing yourself feels selfish when you’ve been conditioned to be accommodating.
It feels wrong when you’ve spent years prioritizing harmony over honesty.
It feels dangerous when your identity has been built around endurance.
It feels scary because you wrongly assume something big is required.
So you start small.
You reconnect – with friends, with laughter, with movement.
You invest in your own growth.
You make your own money, or plan to.
You take care of your body – not to escape, but to return to yourself.
These steps may look ordinary, but they are revolutionary.
Because with every small act of self-respect, with self-love, something shifts.
Your confidence grows.
Your voice steadies.
Your world expands.
You are no longer waiting to be chosen.
You are choosing.
This isn’t about revenge.
It’s about restoration.
And restoration takes time.
Thinking and planning the change process, that’s easy but doing it, actually taking that first step…that’s hard! I know because I’m also learning to choose me. It’s hard and takes intentionality.
Choosing yourself, prioritizing your needs, putting that first foot forward, that’s important. So, like Nike says, just do it…
Baby steps, remember?
